The Six Night Tour
Naples & Lagonegro
Arriving in Naples International Airport you will be picked up in our tour bus and driven south towards the city of Lagonegro in Basilicata. The journey takes approximately two hours after which we will check you into your hotel and take you to a local bar for food and drinks.
Maratea
On the first day of the tour you will be taken to the breathtaking seaside hill town of Maratea. Overlooking the bay is a famous statue of Jesus Christ, whose visage is said to protect travellers on the perilous cliff roads.
After taking in the stunning view from the top of the hill, you will have the opportunity to spend the afternoon in Maratea, enjoying the sights, sounds and sea that lay before you.
Matera and Environs
On the second day, we will take you on a guided tour of Matera which will include free time in order to explore at your own pace.
After a stop at a renowned ghost town on the way to Matera, we will show you the Sassi,the monastery and the churches, the ancient cisterns and water collection system and Tramontano Castle. We will also take in both lunch and dinner in this ancient city and province capital.
Praia a Mare
We will take you to the renowned seaside town of Praia a Mare on the third day of your trip. This will be a day packed with swimming, boats, caves, and a meal with dancing on the beach into the night. Starting with a boat trip, there will be an opportunity to snorkel off the coast, as well as to swim in the caves, that dot the island, Isola di Dino.
The Mountains
For the fourth day, we will leave in the morning to visit Lake Laudemio. Lake Laudemio, is a rare glacial lake sitting about 1,500 m above sea level on the side of Mount Papa. It is the southernmost of Lake of it's kind in Europe. After visiting the lake we will move on to the ancient town of Rivello to take in the old town and the churches. Our final activity of the day will be to visit Lake Sirino, on the mountain of Mount Sirino before eating a traditional 5 course meal at the Agriturismo on the side of the mountain.
Sasso di Castaldo
On this day a mountain adventure awaits as we travel to the small village of Sasso Di Castalda. For the daring there are two 'tibetan bridges'. There is a lower bridge, called 'Fosso Arenazzo', which spans 95m in length and is 70m above ground. The higher bridge, called 'Bridge to the Moon', spans a distance of 300m, and is 120m above ground. The local company provides safety harnesses, and you will be strapped in at all times. For those that do not share a want of adventure tourism, there are beautiful marked trails in a nearby forest and a number of ancient churches featuring renaissance period sculptures and frescoes. In the afternoon, you will have a lovely meal in the village before we depart back to Lagonegro for a final meal at Stradella.

About Us
Welcome to the Mezzogiorno Tour Company, a tour company offering you an adventure into one of Italy's most unexplored regions. Southern Italy is called Mezzogiorno (Mezzogiorno literally translates as Midday), however Mezzogiorno also refers to the "Land of the Midday Sun". To keep with local tradition and to offer the most authentic look at the south, a local team of experts and a couple from abroad have come together to offer you the trip of a lifetime.
To touch the surface of an area with more sites to see than imaginable, we offer a 5 day/6 night tour of the Mezzogiorno region in Southern Italy. You are able to join a group of up to 20 people to meet and make lifetime connections with, or to form your own group. From mountains to ocean, you will see parts of three regions: Campania, Calabria and Basilicata. All you need to do is organise a flight to the south and we will take care of the rest.
You will learn that Mezzogiorno has the largest agricultural production in Italy and is famous for it's olive oil, a family tradition passed down from generation to generation. Little do tourists know that in the North when going to fresh markets, most of the vegetables are driven overnight from the South of Italy to the North of Italy.
Our tight knit team also offers a bespoke tour option, where groups traveling together are able to design their own adventure into the heart of Southern Italy's rich culture and history, national parks, mountains, beaches, islands, caves, and to taste exquisite Italian food you will find no where else in the world. Armando Buldo
Local ExpertArmando Buldo was born in Lagonegro and is our resident local expert. Having spent a few formative years in the UK, Armando returned to Lagonegro. Armando believes that Basilicata and the surroundings are truly an unspoilt gem in Italy. His hobbies include fishing, horse riding and cycling.
Jack Roberts
Tour GuideJack Roberts, a former particle physicist and programmer, decided to take a leap and leave his homeland of the UK in search of adventure. After much travelling he decided to live in the south of Italy, persuaded by the excellent weather, great food and gregarious people.
Michelle Mockbee
Tour GuideMichelle Mockbee has over a decade of experience in community development, worked as an event planner and used to build educational partnerships for rural development projects and research. Now in love with the Mezzogiorno region, she enjoys learning about local food, farming and making fresh pasta.
